From a compartmentalized to a sharing culture

Carmeuse Lime & Stone is a world leader in the production of lime and its derivatives. The company has 94 production sites extending in Western Europe (Belgium, Italy, France and the Netherlands), Central Europe, Eastern Europe (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Turkey), North America (USA and Canada) and Africa (Ghana). All those different production units doesn’t easily communicates and exchanges best practices. Everyone works on his side and often focuses its efforts on the same type of problem as those encountered by his colleagues.

Objectives
Solutions

FastTrack‘s mission was to :

change the corporate culture: from a compartmentalized to a sharing culture;
identify and standardize best practices implemented within the organization;
share and promote the adoption of these best practices in different production units.[/symple_tab]

FastTrack :

realized, together with Carmeuse, an inventory of all knowledge projects which already existed inside the business (sometimes, management and staff were not even aware that such projects already existed). A survey allowed us to identify more than 100 projects from which we retained a half-dozen projects that seemed emblematic of the cultural change that the CEO wanted to operate in the business, but also projects that had reasons to be for all production units of the company;
set up a space for exchange of experiences and processes for production engineers. Today, a facilitator (community manager) of this space hosts discussions and regularly organizes teleconferences. Once or twice a year, a formal meeting of several days allows them to meet, share their experiences, problems and solutions;
did not propose to change the collaborative platform used by Carmeuse, but to optimize its use.
